BACKGROUND:
Missionary Evangelist C.T.L. Spear, represents the
world wide ministries of Baptist Missions to
Forgotten Peoples, Incorporated, headquartered in
Jacksonville, Florida. Nearly two dozen church
planters across the United States from Alaska to
Georgia and California to Vermont are assisted
each year. Preaching, evangelistic outreach,
counseling, encouragement, and crisis assistance
are available to churches and families in
ministry. His wife, Sharen provides counseling
ministries through Hourglass Counseling in
Jacksonville. Their singing family has conducted
hundreds of evangelistic meetings, youth and
family retreats, and rally-concerts in most of the
fifty states.
Starting churches, radio, publishing, prison
ministry, mission conferences, college assemblies,
tent meetings, and extensive youth work are facets
of Spear's 38 year ministry. Humorous ditties and
story-telling characterize the platform style of
this evangelist whose grandparents were homestead
pioneers in covered wagons, dugout soddies, and
log cabins on the Oregon Trail, in Nebraska and
Wyoming. Spear's interest in new church planting
incubated during childhood when his parents were
lay volunteers with Berean Pioneers. As a teen, he
assisted several church starts, and founded two
Nebraska churches before age twenty-three. His
pastorates in Colorado and Wyoming actively
promoted and sponsored new church projects.
More than one hundred fifty missionaries with
Baptist Missions to Forgotten Peoples circle the
globe bringing hope to forgotten ethnic groups,
teenage runaways, alcoholics, prisoners, military
personnel, and society's disadvantaged or
overlooked. BMFP USA Church Planting facilitates
local churches in starting new churches. The
United States has become a secular wasteland and a
buffet of opportunity to church planting
missionaries with a vision to reach the world.
Nearly 75% of Americans do not attend any church
on an average Sunday. Forty percent of west coast
states' populations are unchurched, as are 33% of
Hispanics and 30% of women. America's leadership
in worldwide missions will fade into history
unless American churches reach their own mission
field. C.T. and Sharen are graduates of Grace
University, Omaha, and hold Master's degrees in
Theology and Counseling from Faith Baptist
Theological Seminary, Ankeny, Iowa, and Louisiana
Baptist University, Shreveport, respectively. They
have certification in crisis counseling and crisis
management, and have conducted guest lectureships
in eight Bible Colleges. They served on the
administrative staff of Western Bible College and
Denver Baptist Bible College. Those interested in
New Testament church planting and evangelism are
encouraged to network with BMFP USA Church
Planting and benefit from the experience and
resources God has granted us.
