Dr.
Garland Powell, Founder and President Emeritus of
Baptist Missions To Forgotten Peoples, went home
to be with his Savior and Lord on Monday, March
17, 2008. Brother Powell was eighty years of age.
He was a native of Charlottesville, VA. He lived
the last twenty seven years in Jacksonville, FL.
Following his military service in the US Navy
during World War II, Dr. Powell was called into
Christian ministry. He graduated from Bob Jones
University in 1951. He pastored for 25 years and
then went on to serve with Missions to Military
for six years. In 1980, he moved to Jacksonville
to establish Baptist Missions to Forgotten
Peoples. At the time of his death he served as
President Emeritus of BMFP. The mission board now
has over 150 missionary families serving over 40
countries. He was a sought-after speaker for
conferences, well renowned in the field of
missions and has spoken to congregations around
the world.

His dear wife, Anna Leah, has been a real tower of
strength and a wonderful testimony over the years
as she served faithfully beside her husband. She is
still very active in the Lord’s work and the
ministry of Baptist Missions To Forgotten Peoples.
You may write her at our office address which is
Anna Leah Powell, BMFP, P.O. Box 37043,
Jacksonville, FL 32236.
We have truly missed Brother Powell. He was our
dear and close friend. We can imagine the joy he
is having in Heaven right now fellowshipping with
many of the “Forgotten Peoples” the BMFP missionaries
have reached since 1980 with the Gospel that have
gone on before us. May all of us continue do as
the verse says that BMFP was founded upon, “for
thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee…”
Jeremiah 1:7.

President, BMFP
