The Freys: Rodney and Cheri accepted
Christ as their Saviour in 1987 while stationed at Luke Air Force Base in
Phoenix, Arizona. Shortly after that, Rodney realized God was calling him
to missions. He answered the call to preach the Gospel and began
preparation for the ministry while stationed in Germany.
During their tour of duty at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, they
helped two missionaries to the Native Americans. With this, Christ broke
their hearts and began to reveal His will to them. That year a missionary
preparing for Argentina came to Minot Baptist Church and told the church
of the need for a work to the Mapuche People. Immediately, Rodney knew
that God's call for them was to go to the Mapuche People, and he made this
call public to the church.
Sent out of Minot Baptist Church, with the help of many other Local
Independent Baptist Churches and Baptist Missions to Forgotten Peoples,
Rodney and Cheri arrived in Argentina in February of 2004. They are now in
the Andes Mountains serving the Lord in the heart of the Mapuche
communities of Argentina and Chile.
The Ministry: Rodney and Cheri are homesteading in Aluminé, a small town
close to the largest Mapuche community in Argentina where they presently
are holding Bible studies. The continued language training in Spanish and
in the future with Mapudugun is for the purpose of speaking the mysteries
of Christ to this forgotten people group. To locate pockets of Mapuche in
the Andes to distributing John and Romans, tracts, and just spending time
with the people is a large part of the ministry at this time. All though
it can be difficult, they have found that there is nothing to hard for the
Lord and He continues to make the way for this mountain ministry to the
Mapuche People.
The Bible Goal: Rodney and Cheri seek to lead Mapuche People to Christ,
baptize those that receive Christ, and then teach them the Scriptures. The
goal is to train preachers and plant churches throughout Argentina and
Chile's Mapuche communities. These churches will be Independent Baptist,
soul winning, Bible teaching, and missions supporting as the Bible teaches
all churches are to be.
